Getting to know the city

Windhoek

The first days here in Windhoek has been great. After getting a good night sleep at NAMAS I went out to explore the city. I found Independence street, Zoo park and the Christus Church.

Later in the evening i got a call from Luise, who is a friend of my family. She is a sister at the catholic church. The next day she gave me a big welcome and took me for a guided tour around Windhoek.

Me and Luise

We went to the park around the parliament, just next to the Christus Church I had been to the day before. The park that surronds the parliament building is beautyful. It’s filled with flowers, trees, palms and green grass.

Theres also many small lizzards here, some with beautiful colors. The are quite shy, but if one moves real slow it’s possible to get fairly closeup picture of them.

In the afternoon I decided to take a trip to the Avis Dam. It’s located a little bit east of Windhoek city, and is a popular site for hiking, jogging, dogwalking and fishing.

There is a N$5 entrance fee, and the park has security guards that keeps the place safe. There’s a lot of birds in the park, and if your lucky you can also see small antelopes.

Windhoek

I have safely arrived in Windhoek. I’m staying at the Namas house where dear Panduleni has welcomed me and helps me with anything I have questions about. Today it’s partly clouded, but hot. About 35 degrees. There’s also a another Norwegian former nurse student who came with the same flight as me. She’s here for the 4th time, and has shown me the ways to walk to the city from the NAMAS house. Also I now have a Namibian Tango cell phone pre-paid. My new cell number is: +264 81 365 2169

I’ll try to update this log as often as I can during my stay, and next week I’ll try to upload some pictures.

People here are real friendly and helpful. I see why everybody who has been in Namibia allways want to go back. Looking forward to seeing more of this contry.

Boarding in Johannesburg

The journey begins

Just now I am at Oslo Lufthavn Gardermoen. My flight departs in 40 minutes, and I expect to be in Windhoek about 24 hours from now if everything goes according to plan. I really miss Solbjørg, my girlfriend and can`t imagine It will be 3 months before I see her again. For my friends, there is some pictures from New Years eve at Odvar here
